Version 3, november 18, 2007

=== Changes for version 3: ===

- Removed an unintended solution in the advanced version.
- Added challenges script for the normal version.

=== Changes for version 2: ===

- Included 2 versions. The normal version that is more "freeform", and the advanced version that is harder and tries to force you to do the awesome moves.
- Included appropriate rewards at the end of the level for both versions.
- Fixed an instance where you could get stuck (>_<)
- Some minor changes to visuals/sound.

=== Installation: ===

unzip to your Steam\SteamApps\<username>\portal\portal directory

If all goes well, you'll then have the following files:

<username>\portal\portal\readme_MystOne.txt
<username>\portal\portal\maps\Myst\folderinfo.bns
<username>\portal\portal\maps\Myst\myst_1.bns
<username>\portal\portal\maps\Myst\myst_1_normal.bsp
<username>\portal\portal\maps\Myst\myst_1_advanced.bsp
<username>\portal\portal\maps\graphs\myst_1_normal.ain
<username>\portal\portal\maps\graphs\myst_1_advanced.ain

(if not, you can manually place those files in those folders)

Then just start Portal, go to bonus maps, double click the "Maps by Mystman" folder, and then select the normal or advanced version of the maps, or their challenges.

=== Design Philosophy / Gameplay: ===

This map rests on 3 ideas:

1 - It is impossible to truly fail. You can't die, and you can't get stuck. (I hope..).
2 - The player should be the one dictating the tempo. No waiting for slow balls, no travelling on slow platforms. No slow things at all.
3 - There is a healthy mix of thinking skills and portalling skills. Even after having played the map a hundred times or so, I still need to pay attention when playing the map.

=== Advanced Challenges: ===

The "intended" way of solving the map will get you silver for Time and Portals. I've tried to remove as many shortcuts as possible, but I fully expect someone to do something awesome and get the gold medal. I have no experience with the least steps challenges; just walking everywhere should get you silver. But again, I'm sure some people will find a way to solve the puzzle in 2 steps or something.

=== Other stuff: ===

This map is the first one that I've ever finished/released, although I've also mapped a bit for HL2DM/Warsow/RTCW:ET, so I didn't completely start from scratch.

According to the Steam Community, I've been using Hammer for 40 hours in the past week. A lot of that was probably Hammer just running while I was busy on the internet, but still, it should give you some idea of the ammount of time that was invested in the map.

The map has a few cameras. The combination cameras & portals isn't one that was tested at Valve, and you'll get a lot of errors in console. They don't seem to affect performance though so... just don't look at the console. ;)

Want to redistribute the map, place it on your site, etc? Feel free, but include all the files (including this readme), and drop me a line at mystman666@gmail.com
